Understanding Your Personal Year by John Culbertson
There are a descending series of numerological cycles that affect your life. Some of them will be in play for decades at a time. Others will only affect your life for a matter of days, or even a single day. Of all of them, the one cycle that you’ll feel the most blatantly is your Personal Year cycle.
In numerology, each year of your life is part of a nine-year cycle that evolves through specific steps. The cycles begin at your birth, progress through the nine year pattern, complete the cycle and begin again. Each nine year cycle begins with a 1 Personal Year and progresses year by year through the numbers until you complete a 9 Personal Year. Each year in the cycle is characterized by the opportunities offered you and by the lessons that you can learn during that particular part of the cycle.
Each year in the cycle has a tone that is influenced by number of the Personal Year. Thus, a 1 Personal Year will have the qualities associated with the number 1 – beginnings, creating and solidifying identity, working on the self, and so on. A 5 Personal Year will involve immersion in all things sensual in some way or another, and so on for each of the years.
How to Find Your Personal Year
Finding your Personal Year for any given year is a simple calculation. You simply add the numerical month and date of your birth to the Universal Year number for the year you want to identify.
Ex: If your birthday is January 27, and you want to know your Personal Year number for 2006, you would add:
(Month – 01) + (Date: - 27 – 2 + 7 = 9) + (Universal Year: 2 + 0 + 0 + 6 = 8)
1 + 9 + 8 = 18 = 1 + 8 = 9
The year 2006 is a 9 Personal Year for a person whose birthday is January 27.
Interpreting Your Personal Year
Of course, knowing your Personal Year doesn’t do you much good if you don’t know what each year means. While there are many other influences at play throughout the year, including Personal Month Numbers and Personal Day Numbers, your Personal Year number will give you a general feel for what is going on in your life during the year.
A note about your birthday: Many numerologists will tell you that your Personal Year begins on your birthday each year. The Personal Year is influenced by the Universal Year, so your Personal Year will be in effect throughout the calendar year. However, its influence will be more strongly felt in the months closest to your birthday month, while the preceding and succeeding years’ influences will also be felt in the months before and after your birthday.
***************************************************************
1 Personal Year
New beginnings, new ideas, increased vitality
A 1 personal year brings new beginnings and new ideas. It is a time to launch new projects, conceive new businesses, embark on new relationships. You may find that things that have been important in the last decade or so lose their importance now as new ideas take their place.
In a 1 personal year, you are setting the stage for the next nine years of your life. This is not a time to sit back and wait for things to happen. You will have the opportunity to start making things happen. The things that you do and dream this year contain the seeds for the plants that will grow over the next nine years. A personal 1 year also often brings increased physical vitality
2 Personal Year
Cooperation, Continuation, Nurturing, Development
A 2 personal year can be frustrating after the intense energy and excitement of a 1 year. This is the year that seeds start to grow – the projects and relationships you’ve begun require nurturing and patience. This is a year to keep plugging away, slowly and steadily, while you continue to build on your dreams.
In a 2 personal year, the focus may be on relationships of all kinds as well. It's not uncommon for new relationships to start and old ones to end during this personal year.
3 Personal Year
Expansion, Successes, Blossoming
In a 3 year, you’ll begin to see the fruits of your labor. The 3 year is a social year full of excitement and creativity. You may find yourself involved in a whirl of activities, social, business and romantic. Your enthusiasm is contagious this year, and others will be drawn to you by it. Successes seem to fall into your lap in every area of your life, and opportunities to expand your circles will abound. The biggest issue you may face in a 3 personal year is an overabundance of opportunities. Keeping your focus may be difficult when there is so much to choose from.
The 3 personal year many times can result in a person feeling as though they are having to deal with everyone else's problems, yet are feeling as though they have little time to focus on their own. It's important that the focus go toward the self first, and then if energy and time is left over to bring the attention to others.
4 Personal Year
Foundation, Maintenance, Responsibility
4 is the number of the Square, the four-sided figure that provides a strong foundation for building. A 4 year may seem dull and restrictive, but it’s the time when you are cementing your foundations and solidifying everything you’ve accomplished in the past three years. This is the year that you will become aware of the responsibilities and work required to maintain the momentum needed to build your dreams. A 4 year is an ideal year to take a close look at your finances and physical needs and do what you have to ensure that your needs are met.
5 Personal Year
Independence, Freedom, Personal Rewards, Change
The 5 is the most sensual and creative of all numbers. It is also the most self-indulgent. A 5 year offers rewards that grow from your efforts of the past four years – or deviate wildly from them. Opportunities for travel, enrichment and excitement will often come your way in a 5 personal year. This is a great year to launch yourself from last year’s foundation. If you built a solid foundation in the past year, you’ll find that this year brings rich rewards.
If, however, a solid foundation was not built you may find yourself unintentionally swept away in the chaos of sudden and/or unexpected change and you may have little to no control over it. Thus, the hard work of the four year is extremely important to ensure that the five year is a year of joy, fun, and pleasure.
6 Personal Year
Love, Family, Responsibility, and Home
Romance, family and friends take on a great deal of importance in a 6 year. You’ll find the focus on domestic matters, and love interests are often highlighted during a 6 years. This is the year that many people meet their soul mate (or life mate), and friends that you make during a 6 year will often be friends for life.
This is also a year where responsibility comes into focus. You may pick up new responsibilities or you may find yourself completing and letting go of old ones. Chances are both will be occurring in some form or another.
7 Personal Year
Reflection, Spirituality and Self-analysis
During a 7 year, the focus often turns to the inside. Self-reflection and refinement grow in importance. Many people find themselves questioning the purpose of their lives, and turning toward spirituality. A 7 year is a good time to spend time alone, getting in touch with what really matters and how to accomplish it.
8 Personal Year
Health, Wealth and Attraction
The 8 is a double 4, and in an 8 year you could feel a bit stodgy and bound by responsibility. On the other hand, you’ll also often find that your foundation and building of the past seven years has borne an abundance of fruit and it is easy to attract all the things that you want. After the personal reflection of last year, however, you may be starting to feel as if it just isn’t enough. As the 8 year continues, you may find yourself feeling restless and ready to move on to something new.
Be careful of conflict during this year, as power struggles are not only possible, but very likely. It's important, this year, to learn when to "fight" and when to "just let it go." These decisions will largely impact if and when you end up reaping the previously mentioned rewards.
9 Personal Year
Completion, Resolution, End of an Era
The 9 personal year brings you to the end of a personal cycle and invites you to take stock of where you are and where you want to go. This is the year that you’ll be resolving many of the experiences and issues of the past in preparation for beginning the cycle anew. This can be an unsettling time, where you feel as if you’ve outgrown your life, but haven’t quite released your responsibilities and ties to the past yet.
Interesting stuff eh?
It's funny, but numerology is one of those things in our field that EVERYONE could stand to know a bit about.
When a psychic asks you for your birth information, 8 times out of 10 they are requesting it for numerology reasons and not astrology reasons.
Numerology also makes a great first symbol system and can be used in conjunction with astrology, kabbalah, tarot, and most other new age/metaphysical disciplines.
Thanks for reading and, as the Rosicrucian's would say, "best wishes for peace profound!"

Crystal Divination: Three Techniques for Insight and Healing
Crystal Divination: Three Techniques for Insight and Healing by Certified Crystal Healer Ashley Dalke
From the Ancient Egyptians, to the Elizabethans, and even modern psychics, crystals have played an enormous role in many divinatory techniques. There are several divination methods in which one can utilize the power of crystals for guidance. Crystallomancy, Lithomancy, and Dowsing are just a few of these powerful divinatory methods.
There are a number of steps to performing a reading using crystals as divinatory tools. These steps may be utilized for any type of crystal divination.
First, one must formulate a general question about a particular issue in which he/she needs guidance. The question should be open-ended (i.e. it should not have a yes or no answer). Then, the diviner must focus on the question at hand. It may help to write the question on a sheet of paper and/or to ask it aloud at least three times.
Next, the diviner must prepare himself or herself for the reading. He or she must select the crystal(s) to be used while focusing on the question at hand. He or she should then clear his or her mind and become attuned to the energy of the crystals.
The, one needs to clear and cleanse all of the crystals that will be used. There are a variety of ways one can clear a crystal. One way to cleanse a crystal is by soaking it in a solution of sea salt and distilled water (lavender oil is also often added to the solution due to its purification properties). Another method involves holding the stone under running water or in a stream to be purified. Yet another method to cleanse a stone is by smudging it. To smudge a stone, one must pass the stone through the smoke of an herb or incense (white sage, juniper, palo santo, sweetgrass, cedar, and sandalwood are all commonly used smudging herbs). Also, one may choose to bury a stone in the soil of the earth for a length of time in order to cleanse it. The clearing process should be carried out until one intuitively feels that the stone has been cleansed, or by feeling the stone's energy. Then, after the reading, the diviner should always cleanse and clear the crystals to remove any energy that may have been transferred during the session. Now, one is ready to begin crystal divination.
Crystallomancy is a form of scrying divination that utilizes crystals (most commonly those shaped into spheres [i.e. crystal balls]).
Gazing into a crystal ball takes patience and practice. One most often needs to form a relationship with his or her crystal ball before any meaningful images appear. One should always treat the crystal ball with respect as it is a powerful divinatory tool. Also, one's crystal ball is a very personal object, so one should not allow others to handle it (or even to view it when it is not necessary). One should safely store the ball in a silk cloth when it is not in use. This will help to keep its energetic vibrations clear and radiant.
It is best not to use the crystal ball if your energy is not clear. If one is not serious about the reading, or if one is in a negative state of mind, he or she should not use his or her crystal ball. One should always intend the reading to be for the highest good of all beings, with the love and light of the universe.
To begin scrying, place your light source (preferably a candle) off to the side (so that the light does not interfere with the image you see when you are scrying) and gaze into your ball. The crystal may begin to go out of focus or become blurry to your eyes as you stare into it, then, after a time, images may begin to appear within the sphere.
Most commonly, one will observe symbolic images, although as one becomes more advanced, the images may become more literal. Symbolic visions should always be interpreted according to one's current life situation.
It is best for one to keep a scrying journal so that he or she is able to track his or her skills as a crystallomancer. It also aids in tracking a more complete interpretation of the images you obtain while gazing. A journal can also be helpful if one is performing readings for others.
If one prefers the art of casting crystals, or lithomancy, then the diviner should follow the same steps for preparation as in crystallomancy. Then, he or she should create a casting area. The casting area is a sacred space that is created by the diviner's intention. Many diviners utilize a cloth to mark the casting area. The cloth should ideally be made of silk and should only be used in this sacred space for the purpose of divination, as it is a ritual object.
He or she should then clear the divining space of negativity. This can be done by creating a ring of sea salt or Himalayan salt around the divining area. Yet another method to cleanse the space is by smudging it. The clearing process should be carried out until one intuitively feels that the space has been cleansed, or by feeling the energy of the space.
After the space has been cleared and the intention has been set to create a sacred space, the diviner may begin to cast the stones. He or she should hold them between the palms of the hands approximately 2-3" above the casting area and then drop them while pondering the question.
After this, the diviner should interpret the pattern created by the position of the crystals. The diviner should disregard any crystals that fall outside of the casting area as these are not relevant to the question at hand. If a crystal is cast into the center of the divining space, its meaning should be integrated with all others as it provides a central theme for the answer to the question asked. Emphasis should be placed on any area in which multiple crystals are cast. If no stones are cast onto the area, the diviner may repeat the cast or may need to reformulate the question.
Next, the diviner should interpret the message. To do this, the diviner should look over the area as a whole and use his or her intuition to interpret the meaning of the way in which the stones were cast. Then, he or she should use the associated properties for each crystal combined with the meaning given for each specific section of the casting area in order to draw a conclusion about the question at hand.
It is best for one to keep a journal so that he or she is able to track his or her skills as a lithomancer. It also aids in tracking a more complete interpretation of the insights you obtain while divining. A journal such as this can also be helpful if one is performing readings for others.
Yet another divinatory method is dowsing, or divining with a pendulum. A pendulum is a tool that one holds between his or her thumb and index finger which consists of any sacred object such as a crystal, a key, or a ring, which is attached to a piece of cord or string. A diviner uses a pendulum to receive precise yes or no answers to his or her proposed questions (although he or she may sometimes receive neutral answers-in which case the question should be reformulated or asked again at another time).
One should used the same preparation techniques as in crystallomancy or lithomancy, but instead of formulating a general question, he or she should articulate a question with a precise "yes" or "no" answer.
Once one has properly prepared, he or she should grip the end of the string, opposite the sacred object, between his or her thumb and index finger of the dominant hand. Then, one should ask (aloud or silently) to be shown his or her "yes" answer and note the manner in which the pendulum swings (i.e. forward and backward, side to side, clockwise, counterclockwise, wildly, slowly, etc.). One should then repeat this asking to be shown his or her "no" answer. One should not move the pendulum intentionally, but let it move according the subtle energy currents of the body.
One should practice divining with the pendulum by asking general questions to which one is not emotionally attached. When one is neutral about the outcome of the divination, he or she will obtain clearer insights as they will not be influenced by one's desires. Once one ha had enough practice and is consistently receiving accurate readings, he or she may then begin to ask more personal questions.
Again, it is suggested that one keep a dowsing journal so as to keep a record of his or her accuracy with this divinatory tool.

An Introduction to the Chakras
An Introduction to the Chakras by John Culbertson
Within the metaphysical world we have a term that is called chakra. This is a term which was borrowed from the eastern part of the world (mainly India, but also parts of Asia). This word, which is Sanskrit, means spinning wheel. Thus, a chakra is a spinning wheel of energy located within the human body.
Each chakra is responsible for various human functions. These energy centers direct the energies of life and channel them into different areas. When a chakra becomes dirty or blocked, those energies have a harder time working. Ultimately, this will lead to disease and illness.
Likewise, when we experience certain problems in our life, they do affect certain chakras and can have the result of blocking or closing them.
This article takes a brief look at the seven main chakras that most people within the new age and metaphysical world need to be familiar with.
ROOT CENTER
The root center is located at the base of the spine with the entrance point for the energy being the vagina for a woman and the perineum for a man. Its color, in the physical world, is red. It is associated with the survival instinct. The fight or flight reflex is connected to this center as is our sexual desires when they are pure passion and animalistic in nature.
The root center helps to ground our energy into the physical world and is primarily responsible for us being alive. A closed root center can, and often times does, equate to death here in the physical world.
When we have emotional issues in our lives that deal with our need to survive, this center is likely blocked.
A blocked root center can cause problems to the prostate and uterus, kidneys, bladder, and bowels. Also the lower backbone and nerves can be affected.
Any type of physical exercise will help to clear and keep this center open and functioning. Additionally, dancing, yoga, massages, camping, gardening, and Tai Chi also help to clear and keep this center open and functioning.
An exercise for opening this center involves taking a martial arts horse stance and doing pelvic thrusts.
SACRAL CENTER
The sacral center is located about 2 inches below the belly button. Its physical world color is orange. It is associated with sex and sexuality from a loving perspective. It deals with creativity and gut level intuition. It also has to do with the pleasure principal, our general well being, and our abundance in our life. It sometimes is associated with communication, but this would be from a pleasure perspective as opposed to a persuasive/information oriented perspective.
Negative emotional reactions to any problems in life can cause this center to become blocked. This can result in illness connected to sexual organs and lower back as well as the pancreas, liver, and spleen.
Martial Arts, meditation, and sex with a loving partner can all help to clear, open, and keep this center functioning. Additionally painting, socializing, writing, and playing music/singing will help to clear, open, and keep it functioning.
An exercise for opening this center involves taking a martial arts horse stance and rotating your hips in a circle or doing belly dance figure eights.
SOLAR PLEXUS CENTER
The solar plexus center is located at the base of the sternum. Its physical world color is yellow. It deals with our mind, especially as it functions here in the physical world. Anything intellectual is connected to the solar plexus center as is most forms of communication from a mental perspective.
This center also deals with our self-esteem, self-worth, confidence, and personal power. Whenever we are submissive to others or even circumstances in our life, this center weakens. Likewise, not loving yourself or not being proud of the self can have the same effect.
This center and the heart center are usually so closely linked that they are considered tied together. When a person operates from the solar plexus level though, they tend to take things very personally.
Besides what has already been mentioned, emotional disappointment in love and interpersonal relationships can cause this center to become blocked. When blocked, illness can develop in the heart, stomach, liver, upper digestive tract, and lungs.
Anything intellectual in nature will help to clear, open, and keep this center functioning.
An exercise for opening this center involves jumping as high as you can.
HEART CENTER
The heart center is located in the center of the chest and the physical world color associated with it is green. This center allows a person to have the ability to be unconditionally caring and loving. This is not solar plexus, sacral, or root center love which many times are possessive in nature, rather it is a higher form of love where both the good and bad are equally embraced and accepted and is with total positive regard. It also allows a person to receive love in all forms and to feel joy, kinship, and peace.
This center usually becomes blocked when there is an overflow from a blocked solar plexus center. Any type of hate related emotions can also cause blockages to this center. Illness and injury related to a blocked heart center can develop in the heart, lungs, upper spine, and shoulders.
Playing with children or pets, being in the presence of beauty, and laughing will all help to clear, open, and keep this center functioning.
The psychic ability connected to this center is clairsentience, which means clear feeling.
An exercise for opening this center involves back bends.
THROAT CENTER
The throat center is located at the root of the tongue and has a physical world color of blue. It is the seat of our will and deals with our will power, manifestation ability, self-discipline, and control. An open throat center allows a person to have fortitude and to work through problems that would stop others. This center is also called the truth center, because in order to function properly we must be living our truth, in whatever form and belief that may be.
The center is most likely to become blocked when we hold back the things we really need to say and express or when we over express ourselves in a melodramatic way. A blocked throat center can cause illness or injury to the ears, throat, mouth, neck, and thyroids.
Chanting, drumming, journaling, saying no when we don't want to do something, expressing our needs openly and honestly, and discharging anger in an appropriate manner all help to clear, open, and keep this center functioning properly. Additionally, speaking in front of crowds and sharing problems with trusted friends will also serve to help to clear, open, and keep this center functioning properly.
The psychic ability connected to this center is clairaudience, which means clear hearing. It is our psychic ability to hear auditory voices from guides, angels, spirit teachers, and deceased loved ones.
An exercise for opening this center would be to rotate the neck in a circle from left to right and then switching and going from right to left. Do this multiple times with the mouth open.
THIRD EYE/BROW CENTER
The third eye, also called the brow center, is located above the bridge of the nose and in between the two eye brows. The physical world color that we associate with this center is indigo. When open and operating with an opened crown center, we usually gain the ability of clairvoyance, which means clear seeing. This psychic ability is the one most people have heard of and it represents the pictures that a person sees with their third eye, not their physical eyes.
This center also is connected to wisdom, intuition, and imagination. This center, when balanced, makes use of the whole brain as opposed to one side or the other.
This center usually only becomes blocked when a person misuse their psychic abilities, especially clairvoyance, to pry where they aren't suppose to. It can also become blocked when we try to manipulate others. A blocked third eye can result in illness and injury to head and eyes.
Visualizing the release of negativity in your life along with relaxing and having "child-like" fun can help to clear, open, and keep this center functioning. Additionally, reading spiritual based books, praying, meditation, and being thankful can also help to clear, open, and keep this center functioning.
An exercise for opening this center would be to rotate your eyes from left to right and then switching and going from right to left. Do this multiple times, but without causing eye strain.
CROWN CENTER
The crown center is located at the top of the head on the inside of it as opposed to the outside. The physical world color normally associated with this center is violet, but purple and white have also been used. It is represented many times by the thousand-pedal lotus opening up.
This center deals with spirituality and connecting to the divine in all forms. It is where our inspiration comes from and it brings insight into our daily lives when it is opened and functioning properly. The purpose of this center is to open us up to the beauty, that divine source, whatever we may think of it as.
This center can become blocked when a person is going through a spiritual crisis, has no spiritual base, or through an abundance of negative thinking. A blocked crown center can result in headaches and neck tension and a closed crown center could even lead to a brain tumor or other brain related illnesses.
Meditation for 15 to 20 minutes daily, inner reflections, prayers for the world and reading or listening to those works of great spiritual leaders like Christ and Buddha can all help to open, clear and keep this center functioning properly.
This center combines with the third eye center to help open us up to clairvoyance. It can also be related to a general "knowingness."
An exercise for opening this center is to rub the top of your head in a clockwise direction.

Additionally, the proper function of ALL chakras can be aided by doing a chakra meditation/visualization.
