GOD AND GODDESS OF THE WEEK

Greetings Members, Friends and Students of CUPWA !

Today begins the GOD AND GODDESS OF THE WEEK.
I will be posting a God and Goddess Of The Week on each Monday.
I will do one pantheon at a time.
{{I apologize that there isn't a photo. Once I figure out how to get one attached to the blog post, I will start posting photos with them}}. lol.
Please make note ;
It might take me a while to get through some of the pantheon's so please be patient. :) (Thanks in advance).
Please understand too, that some pantheon's have hundreds of Gods and Goddesses and I may not be able to post every single one of them.
I am going to try my best to make sure we cover the most important ones, the most prominent ones, especially those Gods and Goddesses who might be called upon during ritual and/or times of spellwork.
Even though I will be trying to cover the most important ones, I will also be listing some Gods and Goddesses of minor prominence.
If I list one that you've never heard of, this would be a great indication that some research is needed and could possibly make a great topic of discussion !! :)

Once the God and Goddess is posted, it will be up to you to do the research, to find out more about them, to find out where they belong in the pantheon, what the stories and/or legends are behind them, etc.
I do realize that some of you may not be long out of high school and probably remember some of the Greek myths from your classroom.
But keep in mind ...
In the path of the Witch, we begin to see these Gods and Goddesses just a bit differently than a mere "lesson". They come alive. They are our Omnipotent forces behind our prayers, wishes , desires , needs and wants. They are powerful. They are real.
And we should always be mindful of this and treat them with due respect.

We are going to begin with the Greek Gods and Goddesses. The Greek religion is one of the most versatile and vast domains of the topic of religion. The religion, the mythological figures as well as all of the Gods and Goddesses have played an important role in the Greek legends, poems and literature and many of the stories were inspired by the Greek Gods and Goddesses.

They can be classified into 3 segments, according to heirarchy and/or authority and their prominence. The most prominent ones are the OLYMPIAN Deities. The Olympian Deities were worshipped by the entire Greek civilization and you will find them in almost every story and legend. The second segment are the PRIMORDIAL Gods and Goddesses who had less power than the Olympian. The 3rd segment are the REGIONAL Deities. The Regional Deities were like the Titans, the Nymphs, the Giants, etc.

I am not going to put the Gods and Goddesses in any particular authoritative order. It will be up to you to determine their authority and/or their prominence as well as their associations to anything, including colors , directions, gems, etc. (if any).
I will give you their representations (God of ; Goddess of ;, etc.).
I may give a tidbit more information, but not much !!
Mostly just the representations.
So again, it will be left up to you to take some initiative and do the research on these legends, these stories and these Gods and Goddesses.

Make it fun for yourself and enjoy doing it.

GOD AND GODDESS OF THE WEEK !

Greetings Friends, Members, Witches and Novices !

I am happy to announce a new addition to the CUPWA ! We got such a wonderful response from the Goddess postings that I was doing every day that Willow and I put our heads together and came up with a better game plan for you and the group as a whole ! For most Novices and Newbies of the Craft, gathering information can be overwhelming at times. There is so much to learn in this path. Most of you who already know me, know how big I am on LEARNING YOUR HISTORY. :)

Naturally, the first part of walking this path is learning the history of Witchcraft , Wicca and Paganism. The second part of your history learning is that of your own heritage. Usually a person will decide to learn about, study about, research and become familiar with .. their "heritaged pantheon of Gods and Goddesses", whether it be Celtic, Greek, Egyptian, Germanic (Norse), Hindu, etc.etc. This (IMMHO) is one of the most integral parts of learning *the history* in this path ! The discovery of our OWN ancestors, of our very own blood ... is always interesting to learn about. To learn how they lived and how they believed, what they believed, so forth and so on can make us feel as though we have found a piece of ourselves that's been missing !! That "missing link". However, some of the myths, stories and legends are incredibly long, detailed and even complex. This is why it is so very important to "take your time" when learning the history, in both the Craft itself as well as your own heritaged pantheon. I have decided to take it a bit slower and will be posting "THE GODDESS AND GOD OF THE WEEK." This will be posted every Monday morning. All students who are currently enrolled in the 1st Degree Lesson Plans with the CUPWA, will receive EXTRA CREDIT for doing any research on the GOD AND GODDESS OF THE WEEK. Everyone (students included) will have the entire week and a weekend to do their research before the NEXT GOD AND GODDESS OF THE WEEK is posted. This research should include (but is not limited to) the relations these Gods and Goddesses have in gemology, colors, times of year, directions, etc.etc. I will be posting their *main characteristics*. This is all I will be giving you. If you wish to discuss it further, we can do so on the blog or we can even begin a discussion under the discussion tab at the CUPWA's facebook fan page. We must realize there is loads of information on some of these Gods and Goddesses and it would not be wise for me to try and include all of the information on any one of them on the blog. So when you see just *some* information (and not ALL), this is the reason why. Please be mindful and remember we are going to take one GOD and one GODDESS at a time and one PANTHEON at a time. If we are not going over the Gods and Goddesses of YOUR particular pantheon, please be patient , we will get to it soon enough, (hopefully). If for some reason we've missed a particular pantheon , God or Goddess , please bring it to my attention by sending me a private email. In fact, if you have any issues at all pertaining to the posts on the Gods and Goddesses of the Week , please email me and do not bother Willow with it. She has her hands full and is juggling many things at one time as it is, so please be respectful of her and send them to me. I will be more than happy to address any concerns you have.

I hope this will be a great learning experience for ALL of us. Including myself. There are some pantheons I know very little about and it will be fun to learn as we go. HAPPY LEARNING and may the Gods be with you !

Asking for some help

This post is not on the education level, it is more of asking for some help.
I am currently working on a video on Basic Circle Etiquette and I am needing some Art Work for it. The artist will get their pice into the video and a plug in the credits.
If you are an artist and would like to submit some artwork for us to use in this video Please E-mail us the following:

Your Artist Name
A link to your website (Photo album, myspace page, Facebook page, website extra)

I am also looking for some Artwork we can use in our Zazzle Shop (this will also help us with our fund raising). The Artist will be given credit in the listing as well as a link back to them.

I am also needing Music for our videos, May it be drumming from a drumming circle, or even a song or chant that your group did. Again the artist/group will be given credit and a link back.

I am also needing Artwork for our ByLaws book. I am creating a massive PDF file to use in our LuLu site so I can have a printed version so I wont have to buy black ink every week. (yep it gets printed that much!)

A Day Of Lights

Nov. 11 is Veteran Day in the USA and Remembrance Day in Canada. We will be lighting candles for all of those who are currently serving, have fallen during service, and for those who have left the service. We ask that all would join us in Honoring all Solders by lighting a candle for them. We will also be taking e-mails for your candle requests.

We give many blessings and thanks to all Solders of today and of the past. Without these Men and Women who gave up there lives so that we may have ours, we would not have these basic freedoms that we enjoy daily. My heart goes to all of there families and to those still with us.

November Assignment

This months assignment is on the Inverted Pentagram.
What does it mean?
When did it get its negative outlook?
Who uses it today and what it means today?
What was it used for in the past?

Your job will be to do a Full investigation over the Inverted Pentagram (if you chose to do so).
Do not reply to this post with your answers. You are to write a paper over it. Fully detailed one at that. The number of pages does not matter what matters is that you did the work on finding out about this symbol.

If you do choose to do this assignment it will be due on Dec. 1st 2010. You must e-mail your finished papers on the first not before. Early papers will be deleted after they are sent back to you. Why is it that we do this? because when one does a rushed job errors are made like the ones over Last months assignment, which was The Star of David.

You may send it in a PDF format, a Notepad format, or even words format. Just do not place it in your email as your e-mail body put some love into this work use imagery in your report, do some deep research. Do not post Links to websites and say read this, those will be ignored. You are to open up books, do online research from high rated quality websites. Do not steal someone else's work and take credit for it.

On a separate not on last months assignment, I was Highly disappointed in the responses, I only received One paper and it was correct, everyone else tried to post on our fan page with links to other sites. You do not have to do these assignments but please dont fool us around. So For Future references your papers must be e-mailed to us to get any sort of Feed Back over them. This is the whole point of studying to follow the directions that were given over the assignment. okay done ranting, enjoy your day!
